What is e-Prescribing and Who is it For?
e-Prescribing (powered by DoseSpot) lets licensed prescribers in your business create, approve and send prescriptions electronically without leaving Phorest.
Prescriptions are routed directly to the pharmacy instead of being printed or faxed. Patient and clinic details are pulled from patient profiles, which means less re-typing and fewer errors. EPCS (Electronic Prescribing of Controlled Substances) is supported within the prescribing flow.
Within your clinic, access depends on the staff member. Licensed prescribers get full access and can create, approve and send prescriptions electronically. Prescribing agents or proxy staff can have partial access, which allows them to prepare a prescription for a prescriber to review, approve and send.
How Do I Enable e-Prescribing?
Before you start: If you currently use another e-Prescribing provider, export and securely retain your prescription data before switching to DoseSpot. Keep this information for future reference and audit purposes, in case you lose access to your existing provider.
Go to Manager > Integrations > DoseSpot.
Select Enable Integration, enter your business details, and select Connect to DoseSpot to complete the connection.
Adding Staff Members
After you connect to DoseSpot, select +Add Staff Member to begin setting up access for each staff member who can use ePrescriptions.
A maximum of 10 staff members can be added to your DoseSpot account. If you need to increase this, please get in touch and let us know.
When entering staff address information, use a home address rather than a business address.
You can choose between Full access, which lets staff create, approve, and send prescriptions, or Partial access, which lets them add and edit prescriptions but not approve or send them.
When selecting Full access, an NPI number will be required.
It is recommended that the owner set themselves up with the Clinician Admin Role enabled, before creating any additional staff.
Staff Identity Proofing
Each staff member who is given access, either Full or Partial, will be prompted to complete a legal agreement and acknowledgement, followed by an Identitiy Proofing process.
When verifying your identity, each staff member will need to provide a credit card number and Social Security number, then complete a facial recognition step.
Creating & Managing Client Prescriptions
Client prescriptions can then be created and managed in their client profile under the ePrescriptions section.
Prescriptions can also be managed under Manager > Consultations > ePrescribe.
